COLLECTING CONTEMPORARY ART

The Deutsche Bank Collection is one of the largest and most significant corporate art collections in the world. It contains 53 thousands artworks that are being collected internationally since 1979.

The annual budget for art (purchase of art, exhibitions, partnerships, and costs of personnel) is EUR 20 millions. The prices of the artworks vary from EUR 500 to EUR 10 thousands. Deutsche Bank AG actively participates in the art market - it is the partner of the museum “Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin”, main sponsor of the art fair Frieze in London etc.

Alistair Hicks is the author of the books: “Art Works: British and German Contemporary Art 1960-2000” (2001), “The School of London: the resurgence of contemporary painting” (1989) and “New British Art in the Saatchi Collection” (1989).

Iain Robertson is an advisor to the biggest contemporary art library in Asia “Asia Art Archive” (Hong Kong), Honorary Director of Education at MoMA Hong Kong and a consultant to the private banking arm of “Hana Bank” (South Korea).

In addition to over 100 articles about art market, he is the author of the books: Understanding International Art Markets and Management (2005) and The Art Business (2008). A third book on emerging art markets will be published in December, 2009 and it will be presented during the lecture in Vilnius.

Simon Rees has curated international exhibition in New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, USA etc. Since 2004 he is the chief curator in Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius.

In 2007 Simone Rees was the commissar of Lithuanian pavilion at the 52nd international Venice biennale - the project “Villa Lituania” of Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas got the best national pavilion award.
